In other cases the most elaborate mosaic work was introduced for the permanent adornment of altar-frontals, on which symbols and representations of types of the blessed sacrament of the altar were appropriately placed. There were also frontals made of the precious metals in which beaten-work, chasing, and embossing were discreetly and tastefully adopted for their greater beauty and richness.
