Alberti, Durante

Alberti, Durante an Italian painter, was born at Borgan San Sepolcro in 1538. He visited Rome when quite young, and gained eminence by some works he executed for the churches and other public edifices. There are some of his works in several of the Roman churches. In the Church of San Girolamo della Carita, one of the chapels is entirely painted by him in fresco. In the Church of Santa Maria de Monti he painted The Annunciation. His portrait is in the Academy of St. Luke. He died in 1613, and was buried in the Chiesa del Popolo, his funeral being attended by all the principal artists of Rome.
