Aere

AEre a city noted in the Antonine Itinerary on the way from Damascus to Scythopolis (Bethshean); identified, from an inscription found in its extensive ruins, with the Sanamein of Abulfeda (Tabula Syrice, ed. Koehler, p. 97), now Sunamein, a large Moslem village in the district of Jedur (Ritter, Erdk. 15, 812-817). SEE ASHTEROTH-KARNAIM.
