Vanderveer, Cyrus G.

a minister of the Reformed (Dutch) Church, was born in New Hurley, N.Y., in 1835. At the age of seventeen he entered upon a commercial career, which lasted four years; but when he found the Savior, he gave himself to the work of the ministry. He graduated at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1859, when he was licensed to preach; became missionary at Havana in 1859; at Davenport, Ia., from 1859 to 1861; chaplain in the army from 1861 to 1862; and corresponding secretary of the Board of Domestic Missions from 1866 to 1868.
