Smith, John Blakely

Smith, John Blakely, a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Charlotte, N.C., July 11, 1820. In 1843 he joined the Church, and in December, 1847, was admitted into the Georgia Conference. After its division he became a member of the South Georgia Conference. Besides serving as pastor, he was Sunday school agent of the latter conference, three years agent of the American Tract Society, and three years agent of the Wesleyan Female College. In 1850 he was elected conference secretary, and continued in office for twenty-two years. He died near Americus, Ga., Sept. 30, 1872. See Minutes of Annual Conferences of M.E.
