Poydras, Julien

Poydras, Julien an American philanthropist of French descent, who flourished in the early days of our republic, and was first delegate to Congress from the territory of Orleans (1809-12), gave $100,000 for the founding of a French orphan asylum, and left $20,000 for a college at Point Coupee, La. He died there Jan. 25, 1824.
