Olshausen, Detlev Johann Wilhelm

Olshausen, Detlev Johann Wilhelm a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born March 30,1766, at Nordheim, Hanover. He studied at Gottingen, and after completing his studies acted as private tutor-at different places. In 1794 he was deacon at Oldesloe, Holstein; in 1801 first preacher at Gluckstadt; in 1815 superintendent at Eutin, and died January 14, 1823. He wrote, Prolegomena zu einer Kritik aller sogenannten Beweise fur und wider Offenbarungen (Copenhagen, 1791): — De Immortalitate Hominum Sublata et Doctrina de Animi Simplicitate Certa (ibid. eod.): — De Usu Rationis in Religione Revelata (1792): — Lehrbuch der Moral und Religion (2d ed. 1799): — Predigten uber die ganze christliche Plichtenlehre, (Altona, 1798-1805, 8 volumes).
