Nocca

Nocca a false god of the ancient Goths, Getes, etc. He .is the same as Neptune of the Greeks, and was supposed to preside over the sea. Wormins relates that in some parts of Denmark they call him Nicken, and pretended that he appeared sometimes in the sea and in deep rivers, like a sea-monster having a human head, especially to those unhappy wretches who were in imminent danger of being drowned. They said likewise that persons drowned, being taken out of the water, were found to have their noses red, as if some one had squeezed their faces and sucked the blood, which they ascribed to Nocca.
