Nisibis

Nisibis is the name of the place in Mesopotamia in which the most noted of the Nestorian schools has been located. It arose out of the ruins of the school of Edessa, where Nestorianism found its first-fruits. We have already referred to both these schools in the article NESTORIANISM SEE NESTORIANISM (q.v.). Those seeking further information will do well to consult Assemani, Bibl. Vat. tom. iii, pt. ii, p. 428, 927; ch. xv is devoted to similar institutions.
