Morid

Morid is the Arabic name which the Mohammedans give to those who aspire to a life of uncommon spirituality and devotion, and for this purpose they are put under the direction of another, whom they call Morsbid, that is "director." They have a famous book, entitled A dab al-Monridin, which treats of the qualifications those ought to have who put themselves under the direction of one of those spiritual guides. See Broughton, Hist. of Religion, 2:142.
