Militant, Church a term applied to the whole congregation of faithful men on earth (in distinction from the Church triumphant in heaven), as engaged "to fight manfully" under Christ's banner against sin, the world, and the devil; and to continue his faithful soldiers (milites) and servants unto their life's end.
