Metawilah

Metawilah a heretical Mohammedan sect, who maintain that the allegorical and not the literal meaning of the Koran is: binding on the faithful. They are found principally in the district lying to the south and east of Tyre, in the regions contiguous to the sources of the Jordan, and in Caele-Syria proper. They are Shiites, and recognize the supreme Imamate of Ali (q.v.).
