Mattathah

Mat'tathah (Heb. Mattathah', , מִתִּתָה, probably a contraction of Mattathiah), the name of a person in the Old Test. and of another in the New.

1. (Ματταθά, Auth. Vers. "Mattatha.") The son of Nathan and grandson of David, among Christ's maternal ancestry (Lu 3:31). B.C. post 1014.

2. (Sept. Μαθθαθά v. r. Ματθαθά .) An Israelite of the "sons" (i.e. inhabitants) of Hashun, who divorced his Gentile wife after the return from Babylon (Ezr 10:33). B.C. 458.
