Herman, Lebrecht Prederick, D.D.

one of the earlier ministers of the German Reformed Church, was born .in the principality of Anhalt-Kothen, Germany, October 9, 1761. He prosecuted his literary and theological studies in Europe, and for a while served as assistant pastor in Bremen. In 1786 he emigrated to America, under the auspices of the synods of Holland, to aid in supplying the German churches in Pennsvlvania with the means of grace. He labored for a short time in and around Easton, Pennysylvania, afterwards in Germantown and Frankford, near Philadelphia, and finally in Montgomery County. He died January 30, 1848. Dr. Herman paid much attention to the training of younsg men for the ministry. He was in his day a prominent minister, and a learned and able theologian. See Harbaugh, Fathers of the Germ. Ref.
