Hartmann, Julius

Hartmann, Julius a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born June 1,1806. He served as deacon at different places in Wurtemberg, and was called in 1851 to Tuttlingen. In 1877 he was made doctor of theology, and died Dec. 9,1879, leaving, Geschichte der Reformation in Wurtemberg (1835): — Das Lebe Jesu nach den Evangelien (1837-39, 2 vols.): — Johann Brenz (1840, 2 volumes): — Alteste Katechetische der evangelischen Kirche (1841): — Erhard Schnepff der Reformator (1870). He was also one of the editors of Leben und ausgewahlte Schriften der Vdter und Begrunder der luth. Kirche, for which he wrote the life of Brenz (volume 6 of the collection, Elberfeld, 1862), and contributed to Piper's Evangelische Kalender and Herzog's Real-Encyklop. (B.P.)
