Ernesti, Jakob Daniel

Ernesti, Jakob Daniel a German Protestant theologian, was born at Rochlitz, December 3, 1640. He studied till the age of fifteen under his father, Daniel, and then at Leipsic and Altenburg, and became, in 1663, minister of the gospel at Eybitsch, rector at the gymnasium of Altenburg in 1678, deacon in 1683, archdeacon in 1685, and finally consistorial assessor in 1705. He died December 15, 1707. His principal works are, Prodromus Apanthismatum (Altenburg, 1672): — Selecta Historica Rariorum Casuum (ibid. 1680). See Hoefer. Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
