Dom

Dom a title of respect given to the Benedictines and canons, being the abbreviation of dominus, which was the Latin for the mediaeval ser (sieur), and sir of the Reformation, and was applied to non-graduate priests. The A.B. of Cambridge is now designated "dominus," but the A.M., as at Oxford, is "dominus magister," and the D.D. "dominus doctor."
