Crates

Cra'tes (Κράτης; Vulg. translates praelatus est), governor of the Cyprians (ὁ ἐπὶ τῶν Κ.), who was left in charge of the "castle" (τῆς ἀκροπόλεως) of Jerusalem (?) during the absence of Sostratus, in the reign of Antiochus Epiphanes (2 Maccabees 4:29).
