Connell, Zechariah

Connell, Zechariah a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born in Connellsville, Fayette County, Pa., September 11, 1794. In 1801 his father removed to the West, and settled in Adams County, Ohio. His early education was such as could be obtained in the West at that day, which he diligently improved. He was a faithful student and became a wise man. He entered the itinerant ministry in 1818, and filled various stations, as minister and presiding elder, with uniform fidelity and success, up to the year of his-death. Methodism in Ohio is largely indebted to him, not only for its extent, but for its character. By his zeal as a preacher, and his skill as an administrator, he gained and kept the confidence of the Church during his long career of service. He was five times elected to the General Conference. He died December 13, 1863. — Minutes of Conferences, 1864, p. 143.
