Clemence, Joseph Guillaume

Clemence, Joseph Guillaume, a French theologian was born at Havre, Oct. 9,1717. He was successively pastor of St. Claude, Rouen, grand-vicar; of Poitiers, and prior of St. Martil de Machecoult, and died Aug. 6, 1792, leaving, Defense des Livres l'Ancien Testament (Paris, 1768): — Les Caracteres du Messie Verifies en Jesus Christ (ibid. 1776, 2 vols. 8vo): — l'Authenticie des Livres tant du Nouveau que de l'Ancien Testament (ibid. 1782); reprinted under the title, Refutation de la Bible en Expliquee, de Voltaire, etc. (Nancy, 1826, 12mo).
