Chauncy, Elnathan

Chauncy, Elnathan, a Congregational minister, was born Sept. 10, 1724, at Durham, Conan., and graduated in 1743 from Harvard College. He studied theology with his father, Rev. Nathaniel Chauncy, and for some time was his assistant. 'In consequence of ill-health he gave up preaching, and for several years devoted himself to agriculture, and afterwards accepted an appointment as captain of a military company. He resumed preaching during the last years of his life, and died May 4,1796. See Chauncy Memorial, p. 175-177.
