Cautelam, Absoluto Ad

Cautelam, Absoluto ad is a term of the canon law. When a priest is under sentence of excommunication or interdict, from which he appeals, he is obliged to obtain letters of absolution ad cautelam, to enable him to celebrate, pending the hearing of the appeal.
