Burt, David

Burt, David a Congregational minister, was born at Monson, Mass., Aug. 2,1822. After preliminary study in Wilbraham Academy, he entered Wesleyan University; but graduated at Oberlin College in 1848, and at Andover Theological Seminary in 1851. On Nov. 5 of the. latter year he was ordained pastor in Raymond, N. H., which position he retained until February, 1855. From January, 1856, to February, 1858, he was pastor fin Rutland, Mass.; and from May, 1858, to August, 1866, he was acting-pastor in Winona, Minn. The two years following he was employed as superintendent of schools in Tennessee under the Freedmen's Bureau. The next year he was' acting- pastor in Minneapolis; and from January to March, 1870, in New Braintree, Mass. After this, about five years, he was superintendent of schools in Winona County, Minn.; and state superintendent of public instruction afterwards, residing at Northfield. He died at St. Paul, Minn., Sept. 23, 1881. See Cong. Year-book, 1882, p. 24.
