Bremer, Charles

Bremer, Charles a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, was born in Pyrmont, Germany, in 1814. He was religiously raised; professed faith in Christ among the Pietists in Germany at the age of sixteen; emigrated to America about 1836; joined the Methodists in 1842; was licensed to preach shortly afterwards in New Orleans, and began preaching to the Germans in that vicinity in private houses. He was eminently successful, and organized the first German Methodist Church in New Orleans. Thus he labored with unbounded zeal and fidelity until his death, September 14, 1847. Mr. Bremer was energetic beyond his strength, and generous beyond his means. See Minutes of Annual Conferences of the M.E. Church South, 1848, page 140.
