Bourbon, Charles De (2)

Bourbon, Charles De (2), a French prince and prelate. was born Dec. 22, 1520. He was son of Charles of Bourbon, fourth count of Vendome. He united with more than ten abbeys the archbishopric of Rouen, the legation of Avignon, the bishopric of Beauvais, the dignity of peer, and that of commander of the order of St. Esprit. He was an earnest advocate of the Catholic faith, and was finally proclaimed king under the name of Charles X, and protector of the religion of France. He died May 9, 1590. See Hoefer, Nouv. Bio.
