Asterius, Utrbanus

Asterius, Utrbanus was a writer in the Montanist controversy of the 2d century.. He is only known by a reference to a Λόγος κατὰ Α᾿στέριον Οὐρβανόνs which. occurs in an anonymous work against Montanism, fragments of which are preserved by Eusebius (Hist. Eccles. 16:17). On the supposition that this reference was a note by Eusebius or by some ancient scholiast, Valerius, Tillemont, Cave, and others have ascribed to Asterius the authorship of the work in question. Since, according to the most obvious interpretation, the reference to Asterius forms part of the quotation, Asterius was probably a Montanist replied to by the writer.
