Archicantor

Archicantor is the name of the prior or principal of a school of sacred music, of the kind established as early as the 6th century, and which became common in various parts of Europe, particularly in France and Germany. The title of the head officer of these schools at Rome was "Archicantor Ecclesims Romanae," and his post was highly respectable and lucrative.
