Aelius, Publius Julius

Aelius, Publius Julius, bishop of Debeltum, Thrace, towards the close of the 2d century, was one of several bishops who protested against the Montanist pretension to the gift of prophecy. Their signatures are produced in a letter a fragment of which is preserved by Eusebius, list. Eccles. v, 19) by Serapion. AElius ascribes the Montanist prophecies to daemoniacal possession.
