Aelfric

AElfric partly contemporary with the last, and with him, apparently, educated by Ethelwold, who was at the time abbot of Abingdon. On the removal of Ethelwold to the see of Winchester, in 963, AElfric succeeded him at Abingdon. He died in 1005, and was buried at Abingdon. By many he is believed to have been the same with the last-mentioned Elfric, and the question is involved in extreme obscurity; it is most probable, however, that they were different persons. The reader will find much in elucidation in Cave (anno 980). — Landon, Eccl. Dict. s.v.
