Abelli, Louis

Abelli, Louis Bishop of Rodez (South France), was born at Vez, 1604. He was made bishop in 1664, but resigned in three years, to become a monk in the convent of St. Lazare, at Paris. He was a violent opposer of the Jansenists, and author of a system of Dogmatic Theology, entitled Medulla Theologica (republished in Mayence, 1839), and also of Vie de St. Vincent de Paul, 4to. He was an ardent advocate of the worship of the Virgin Mary, and wrote, in its defense, La Tradition de l'eglise touchont le culte de la Vierge, 1652, 8vo. He died in his convent in 1691.
